Sirens
Film, 2017
Sirens is a water-themed visual poem that explores the delusions, longing, and paranoia of the war.
Strike A Light commissioned this film to be part of the WWI centenary project Orange Lillies. Through this moving image work I took the main storyline from a script (that I was developing at the time) about a boy searching his mind for an unknown father and pulled it apart. I wanted to use a more experimental approach to explore the atmosphere of the film. I used the script as a springboard to create abstracted poetry and then combined this with a manipulated soundscape and archival footage from the Imperial War Museum.
A sibling piece to this is Sirens (In The Navy You Wear Blue) - Interactive Sound Piece.
