Future Movement Series

Director, 2023

I was approached and commissioned by world-leading dance company Rambert to create a 3-part documentary series with Future Movement, their youth engagement programme. Over 9 months I created a framework and schedule for the project. I designed and ran pre-production workshops with groups of brilliant 16-19 year olds in Rochdale, Mansfield and London to equip them with the skills to co-author these films.

Each group decided on a theme for their film, then chose a local hero and Rambert dancers to interview. As well as exploring themes of creativity, identity, and belonging conceptually by designing interview questions, the groups explored their chosen themes physically by participating in movement workshops designed by the Rambert dancers. You can watch all episodes here by creating a free account with Rambert Plus.

Episode 1: This is Me

Future Movement Mansfield explore what it means to express your queer identity. Featuring Rambert dancers, Max Day and Dylan Tedaldi and care home manager Sam Bernard who defiantly refuses to conform to gender norms.

Episode 2: Strength in Numbers

Future Movement Rochdale meet youth activist Anita Okunde to hear her take on female empowerment and Rambert dancers Aishwarya Raut and Seren Williams who share personal reflections on being women in their industry.

Epsiode 3: Comfort Food

What shapes our cultural identity? Future Movement London talk to Rambert dancers Naya Lovell and Antonello Sangirardi and visit the home of broadcast journalist Ben Hunte.
